FRUITLAND, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri is home to a new tiny home trend: solar powered tiny home log cabins.

The difference between these tiny houses and what you might see on TV is  the solar power.

You can essentially plop them down where you want and start living in them immediately.

"This is the first offering that I know of that is turn key," Steve Eidson said, the Missouri state coordinator for the American Tiny House Association. "It's all ready to go."

Eidson says it comes complete with the solar panels, the appliances including a freezer and a composting toilet.

According to Eidson, the cabins are designed for full-time living.

"A lot of companies say you can turn their tiny home or cabin into an off grid cabin but you have to get those separate components," Eidson said. "This comes complete. All those facets are in place and it's ready to go so you don't have to source out anything. Everything in the home that you would need to live is there."

The advantage, according to Eidson, is that it is off the grid.

That means no bill, no digging for utility lines, no connecting to any on the grid power source.

"Whether you're a family just wanting an off grid solution or if you're a hunter there's plenty of room four hunters up here," Eidson said.

The price tag for the 12 x 24 off grid version is $39,900.

The cabins come in all sizes both smaller and larger.

If you're looking for an on the grid version, you will spend about $29,900.

Eidson says the tiny house market has really taken off.

"People who want to live debt free and not live a slave to a mortgage, that's a huge market, the green conscious people that want to be off grid, lower carbon foot print, that's a large market, people that want a vacation home down at the lake is a very big market," Eidson explained. "... There are many niches in the tiny home movement that are really making this grow at a very fast pace."

Eidson says the homes are being sold locally in Fruitland by Shed Easy/Tiny Home Easy.

They went on the market in June and Eidson said they have already had some pre-orders.

He expects even more orders as they get more attention.

"I can imagine being a single person that one could live in here very comfortably all the amenities of home are here," Eidson said.
